Response to #3 on Page 131.
One time family friends of mine and myself got into a debate
about evolution in schools. This debate occurred sitting
around my mom’s best friend’s dining room table after
dinner one night. The participants were myself, my mom, my
mom’s best friend and my mom’s best friend’s mother.
The position taken by my mom’s friend was that it should
not be taught in schools. She said that it was offensive to
teach children about evolutionary theories that they are
taught not to believe in by the church. She stated that each
child is a product of how they are raised and that their
ideals tend to come from their parents. She stated this as a
way of explaining her own outlook (She was raised as a
Christian Scientist). My mom’s friend’s stance on
evolution would place her on as a conservative. She was not
able to be persuaded in any other direction, because her
beliefs were so ingrained in her.
