Assignment 1

Throughout my life, I have always enjoyed writing. My love of writing really began when I started writing humor columns in 3rd grade. The humor writer Dave Barry has always been a major influence of mine. In high school, I started writing a lot of music reviews and concert reviews. I also have a love of writing poetry. However, my main passion is interviewing people. Writing factors in to interviewing in several ways. First, you want to be able to compose thought-provoking questions. Secondly, your goal should be to end up with a final project that reads effectively in print. I have interviewwed a wide range of subjects in-person, via phone and e-mail (Norah Jones, Robert Randolph, Dave Barry among others). Working for the teen section of my local paper helped me to shapen my interviewing/reviewing skills.
Writing essays has always been a challenge for me, but I see every essay as a chance to work on my weaknesses. However when I am invested in the topic, I tend to do better. Whenever I really stay on task and not let the essay meander, the final product is much improved. I also tend to be more successful at crafting eassys when I keep them stripped down and then round them out with examples. Iwould say that my biggest weakness in writing essays is paragraph development. It is always important to remember tofully support my ideas and flesh out my examples.
I always enjoy the challenge of attempting to improve my writing. Regardless of what I end up doing in life, writing will always be a passion of mine.
